The Basil Rathbone

The Basil Rathbone

Elegant. Clever. A Bit Cheeky and Unexpected. That's what you can expect from the Basil Rathbone.  Making this drink is far from elementary.

The Basil Rathbone
2 Parts Bourbon
1 Parts Cardamom-Clove Simple Syrup
2-3 Leaves of Fresh Basil
Ginger Bitters (or Freshly Grated Ginger)
1 Watson (A Single, Large Chunk of Ice)

Pour the bourbon, the Cardamom-Clove Simple Syrup, and 1-2 leaves of fresh basil into a muddling cup and muddle thoroughly. If you are using fresh ginger, add now as well - if using ginger bitters, add later.

Add ice and shake thoroughly.

Pour over a single large chunk of ice - for this drink, we call this ice cube a "Watson" because like the good Doctor Watson, it adds a level of necessary pleasantness by being the thick, slow-melting slab of ice we know and love.

If using ginger bitters, add here. Garnish with a single basil leaf - also referred to at "Sherlock's Hat"

Enjoy with the solemn violin music of your choosing.
